‘I’ve experienced such situations in the past, and when it happened, I did not pretend to know an answer if I didn’t. When a customer asks me a question, and I don’t know the answer I tell them ‘That’s a good question! Let me find out for you!’, and start taking steps to find a solution. 

In my previous position as a customer service representative at a software development company, I helped customers with understanding and using our products to its full potential. The products contained a few complex features, and if I could not find the answer in the customer service manual, I would reach out to colleagues for assistance or referred the customer to someone who could help them out.
