I knew that the patient with head trauma had a higher priority, but I also knew that leaving the other patient in severe pain would be inhumane. So, I had to make a decision on which patient to transport first, and it was a difficult decision to make. I considered the severity of the patient’s injuries, the potential outcomes, and the available resources.

After evaluating all the options, I decided to transport the patient with head trauma first, as their condition was critical, and delay would have put their life at risk. However, I also made sure that the patient with the broken leg was given pain medication and was made as comfortable as possible until the second ambulance arrived. I communicated my decision to my partner and other first responders, and we transported the patient with head trauma to the hospital. The patient with the broken leg was transported shortly after.

Looking back, I believe that my decision was the right one, as the patient with head trauma had a successful recovery. However, I also learned that it is important to consider the emotional and psychological well-being of the patients and not only their physical condition. This experience taught me the importance of balancing competing priorities and how to make difficult decisions under pressure.”
