  • Have you worked in a retail store before?

A hiring manager asks this to know whether you have experience or skills for this job or not. The answer should be a yes or a no, if yes back up your yes with evidence or an explanation, an example is yes, I used to work in a retail store (give its name and location) and from there the skills I gained are (name them).

If not the hiring manager may decide to give you the job that is if you talk about the skills you have, he or she may decide to appoint someone who will show you around and direct you on how the everything is done.

  • What makes you suitable for this retail job?

As an interviewee talks about your skills and the experience you have gained from previous jobs. This retail customer service interview question is very common. Make sure you can answer it.

Convince the employer that once given that position in the retail store, that you could fit beautifully and you be of great value to the team.

  • Why do you want to work here?

  • What is your greatest strengths?

When answering this kind of question, do not make a mistake of talking il of your previous job, boss, or even employees. An example of an answer you could give is: my family relocated to this place, or you saw a good opportunity for your career to grow, thus applied for this job.

  • Where do you see yourself in five years?

The hiring manager always ask this kind of question to see whether you as a potential employee will be reliable, in that in the next years will you be around? An answer that you can give is: I believe that in the next five years, I will be around and will have been promoted to a higher position than the one I am currently applying for, because the experience that I have gained over the years and the one that I will gain while working here will make me a reliable employee.

  • Besides your retail career, what are your interests?

As listed on your Curriculum Vitae about your interests could be traveling, photography, swimming, playing basketball. You can even go ahead and mention that you once used those skills and became of importance or got rewarded for what you did.

An example: there was a basketball competition, and you played for your team (that is in the previous job), and you won, you got an award as the best player that year/season.

  • According to you, how would you describe good customer service?

A hiring manager asks this question to make you talk about your qualities unknowingly. The best answer for this kind of question is, by being friendly to the customer, listening to their description or items, or when they ask about which product they should buy when stuck between two products.

You could add that great customer service is one of the main qualities an employee should have since from that the customers can give their feedback and reviews of that retail store. Great feedback and reviews are what makes more and more customers come.

Tips for answering retail customer service questions

  • If you have worked at another retail store come with information that shows that the statement you have just said is true. Talk about the positive information about the place, the employees and everything good about that place.
  • Ensure that you are smartly dressed for the interview it gives a good first impression about you, dress formally forget about the shouting color kind of clothes a blue or dark blue attire would be perfect for the interview and lastly ensure that your clothing is clean,
  • The interviewer will look at your facial expressions if nervous, try breathing in and out so that you can relax, try smiling and be friendly to the hiring manager. Don’t forget that listening skills are important during the interview to listen to the questions being asked and answer them confidently.
